It is a vastly varied job and you never know what’s going to happen in the course of a day. On any day I could be handling media inquiries, helping to set up press conferences, writing and issuing press releases, or taking on a reporter’s role at a councilor development day to communicate what’s taken place. I produce MGWSP Link, the internal magazine, and One Team which is the quarterly Supply Chain magazine to encourage our contractors to share information and innovation. Internal communication is very important and I work closely with all departments to ensure that information is shared.
I also write news content for the website and Intranet to promote and maintain a positive overall public image for the company and our services. We also work closely with the County Council to assist them with the media and strategic communications plans.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of my job is the chance it gives me to continue to write creatively and make good use of my media knowledge and communications skills. It is not an ordinary desk job, there is excitement amongst the usual day to day business, the chance to find out more about the inner workings of MGWSP, the council and our contractors. This is a new industry to me having spent most of my life working within financial services and direct mail so I am always learning and being surprised at just how involved this contract is.
I started with MGWSP helping with the mobilisation of the Northamptonshire contract. This was, I have since found out, one of the shortest mobilisation periods ever achieved.
MGWSP is a progressive employer, with positive ideas for the future.
